My name is Kate, and I bake cakes. In that respect, the name of this blog is wrong… I suppose it should be BakeCakeKate (but that doesn’t have the same ring to it, does it?).
This is my attempt to bake and blog my way through all 105 cakes in the Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book. 105 cakes is a lot – if I manage to bake one every fortnight (which in all likelihood won’t happen) that’s a couple of years of cakes – but this is a long-term project. I’m hoping my family, friends and colleagues will put up with the endless supply of cake – I suspect they’ll enjoy it at first, but I’m taking bets it’ll be about the 8th cake mark that they start crying for mercy.
So here’s the rules:
- All cakes shall be from the original book. I’m told there’s been a re-print with four additional cakes recently, but none of them will be making an appearance
- Where possible (and until everyone I know is sick of it), all cakes shall be made using the original book’s Butter Cake and Vienna Cream Icing recipes
- Cakes do not need to be made in order of the book (and are more likely to be made in groupings of cake tins required)
- Where old-school decorations aren’t available, substitutes may (and frequently will) be used
So here we go. Enjoy the ride!
